Flu Vaccination

The Practice has started vaccinating at risk patients against influenza. Even if you feel healthy experts recommend flu vaccination if you have:

Contact the practice reception to book your appointment for flu vaccination.

  • A heart problem.
  • A chest complaint or breathing difficulties,including asthma that requires regular steroid inhalers or tablets.
  • Kidney disease.
  • Lowered immunity due to disease or treatment (such as steroid treatment or cancer treatment).
  • Liver disease.
  • Stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).
  • Diabetes.
  • A neurological condition such as multiple sclerosis,cerebral palsy or post polio-syndrome.
  • A problem with your spleen or if you have had your spleen removed.

Even if you are fit and healthy,you have seasonal flu vaccination if you are:

  • Pregnant.
  • Aged 65 years or over.
  • Living in a residential or nursing home.

ABMU launched a new Primary Care Out of Hours Service for patients in the Neath Port Talbot area today. If you require medical advice or need to see a doctor when the surgery is closed contact the new service.

The service is manned by trained members of staff who will determine the most appropriate way to deal with enquiries.

E. coli outbreak:UK cases rise to 11

'The Health Protection Agency has announced four more cases of E. coli infection in the UK linked to the outbreak in Germany.

It brings the total number of British cases to 11,with all those affected having recently travelled to Germany.

Sleeping Tablets

Background

Difficulty sleeping or insomnia is a common problem and although most people experience short periods of insomnia at some time in their lives,for the some the problem is long term and significantly affects the quality of their lives. Patients suffering with insomnia frequently consult their doctor to request a prescription for medication to help them sleep and whilst useful in some circumstances 'sleeping tablets'are best avoided in most circumstances.
